Punjabi university gets new Dean College Development Council

Dr. Gurpreet Singh Lehal, Professor of Computer Science, today joined as Dean College Development Council, Punjabi University, Patiala. Dr. Lehal, who is also the director of Research Centre for technical development of Punjabi Language, Literature & Culture and former Dean of Faculty of Computing Sciences, Punjabi University Patiala, brings with him a rich experience of software development and is renowned worldwide for his contribution in computerization of Punjabi language and e-Governance in local languages including development of first Punjabi word processor-Akhar, Gurmukhi-Shahmukhi transliteration system and multilingual fuzzy search tools for Punjab police for tracking criminals.

 

Punjabi university gets new Dean College Development Council. Dr. Lehal thanked the Vice Chancellor, Professor Arvind, for assigning this responsibility and providing him the opportunity to use his experience of computerization to bring transparency and efficiency in the working of the college development council.

According to newly appointed Dean College Development Council, Dr. Lehal, one of his immediate task will be development of a portal which will provide an up-to-date profile,  including faculty, courses and infrastructure,  of more than 280 colleges affiliated with Punjabi university. Thrust will also be laid on automation of college related activities such as student registration, faculty recruitment, college inspection etc. to bring in transparency and cut the red tapism. In addition, webinars/workshops will be conducted to assist the colleges in speedy implementation of computerisation of the work processes, resolving issues related to usage of Punjabi on computers and sensitizing the college faculties and managements of the funding avenues and agencies and the new trends in higher education. For efficient grievance redressal of the college management, faculty and students, an online complaints and suggestion management system will be developed where the complaints and suggestions will be handled with transparency and neutrality.
