Punjabi University organized National seminar on “Nanak: An illumined Life”

The Department of English, Punjabi University, Patiala organized a national seminar on “Nanak: An illumined Life” at Senate Hall. Internationally acclaimed painter, sculptor and kathakar, Sidharth, Senior Associate Editor, The Tribune, Roopinder Singh, and Prof. & Head, Department of English and Dean, Faculty of languages, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, Dr Swaraj Raj were the esteemed speakers. The Vice Chancellor, Dr B. S. Ghuman, Punjabi University, Patiala presided over the seminar.
Dr. B. S. Ghuman, Vice Chancellor, in his presidential remarks, said that we are passing through turbulent times, and we need a road map to negotiate the challenges we are facing. Stating that Guru Nanak was taller than his contemporaries, he said that there is an urgent need for developing inter-faith dialogue on the basis of egalitarian principles, and Guru Nanak’s teachings could play a very fruitful role in achieving this aim.
Dr Jaspreeet Mander, Head, Dept. of English formally welcomed and introduced the speakers. Dr Dharamjeet Singh conducted the proceedings and proposed the vote of thanks.
All the speakers laid stress on significance and relevance of Guru Nanak’s teachings and philosophy in contemporary times.
