Yesterday, Punjabi university teachers association (PUTA) dropped a bombshell, by relinquishing their additional administrative posts and sending mass resignation to the university vice chancellor, Ravneet kaur, IAS.
After the explosion, university vice chancellor called an emergency meeting at her office, in Chandigarh, as she holds the post of additional chief secretary, forest & wildlife. In the meeting PUTA representative along with dean academic affairs, registrar was also called. Meeting lasts for few hours and remain inconclusive.
Today, in the morning, faculty members (dean academic affairs, registrar, dean colleges etc), who resigned yesterday from their additional administrative posts, didn’t attend their offices. When contacted the registrar, he confirmed that “I didn’t attend registrar office as I had already resigned from the post. “
Later, PUTA sent a letter to the university chancellor VP Singh Badnore, who is also the governor of Punjab and seeks his intervention and requested him to solve the deadlock between the university faculty, staff and the vice chancellor.
They highlighted the problem and wrote that “due to the autocratic attitude of the present Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala has created an atmosphere full of distress on the campus. The teachers, officials and employees of the university feel suffocated in such a kind of environment. In addition, the current Vice- Chancellor is hurting the dignity of teachers, officers and employees in various meetings related to academic and administrative issues. The Vice Chancellor is delaying the promotions and extensions of teachers, officials and employees unnecessarily by imposing certain conditions even after the completion of the entire process as per the guidelines. It is worth mentioning here that in response to a call give by PUTA as many as 29 teachers relinquished their 32 additional administrative positions. It is also submitted that many of the teachers who could not relinquish their additional administrative positions yesterday will be doing so in coming days. The academic and administrative environment of the university is disturbed badly.Punjabi University Teachers’ Association is convinced that your intervention is not only necessary but also imperative for the future of the university. We are quite hopeful that you will be able to spare your valuable time for the kind intervention at the earliest.”
