Punjabi University Signs MOU with India Metrological Department

Punjabi University Patiala has today signed Memorandum of Understanding with India Metrological Department, New Delhiin the presence of Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General, IMD New Delhi(Who is also affectionately known as Cyclone Man of India)and Dr. Arvind,Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University Patiala. K C Saikrishnan, Scientist F & DGM New Delhi-ISSD was the senior scientist from IMD was also present.Dr. Abhinav Bhandari, AP, Computer Science & Engineering welcomed the audience and emphasized the need of such MOUs between IMD and academica to strengthen the future research endeavours of IMD for the benefit of the Nation.
Prof (Dr.) Arvind said Signing of today’s MOU sets a significant milestone for closer research collaboration among the Punjabi University and India Metrological Department. He further said this MOU will bring ample opportunities by providing a unique research platform for our faculty, research scholars and students to work in the domain of applied research of atmospheric sciences. He mentioned in his address that although the MOU process is initiated by Department of CSE but this MOU will be beneficial to all the departments of the university. Dr. Navjot Kaur, Registrar Punjabi University Patiala congratulated the department for this collaboration. Dr. Mrituanjay Mohapatra addresses the gathering and shared that after this MoU, IMD will provide every type of data and information for free of cost for any type of research project initiated by Punjabi University, Patiala. Dr. Sanjeev Puri, Director Planning and Monitoring said that the details of this MOU will be shared to all the university departments so that students, faculty and research scholar can take benefit out of that.
Dr. Raman Maini, Prof. & Head Department of CSE elaborated about the details of the MOU. Dr. Maini mentioned in his address that this MOU is the outcome of brainstorming session during the International Conference organised by the department of CSE. He stated that no single university no matter how large or well endowed can address the future challenges of society by itself. In this era of globalisation and interdependence, cooperative partnership with other institutes of academic and research excellence around the world is not an option but a necessity.

Dr. Navdeep Kanwal, coordinator for this MoU has shared that department has already initiated a research project in coordination with IMD, New Delhi for Cyclone intensity estimation. Dean Academic, Dr. A K Tiwari proposed the vote of thanks to the audience and expressed hope that this MoU will bring benefits to society and Nation in the form of various research findings and software applications.
