Punjabi University student counselling centre organized workshop about exam stress

Humans, on daily basis, need to learn, un-learn and re-learn the capabilities that enable them to take adaptive and positive behaviour, which makes them able to deal with the events and challenges of everyday life and to move ahead in the modern world, which is full of new confrontations and handle everything from interactions with others to identifying and processing emotions.
Student Counselling Centre of Office, Dean Student Welfare, Punjabi University, Patiala conducted a workshop on ‘Life Skills and Handling Exam Stress’ for around 150 first year students of FYIP Mathematical & Computational Sciences, Biological Sciences and Physical & Chemical Sciences. The Counsellor at Student Counselling Centre, Dr. Ruby Gupta conducted the workshop with the objective of equipping the under-graduate students with the basic life-skills like empathy, problem-solving, decision-making, inter-personal skills etc. as an awareness initiative for the youngsters. Awareness is the greatest agent for change and when one is able to monitor one’s own emotions and reactions, it let’s a person an awareness towards his own strengths, weaknesses and triggers specially the young people.
The basics of Stress Management during exams were discussed. Various techniques to handle exam stress including Mindful Meditation, Breath-work and Cognitive Reframing were discussed and performed.
As per the feedback of the students, they thoroughly enjoyed the activities and they added that such workshops should be regularly conducted as they create a significant and positive change. The workshop was conducted at Science Auditorium, Punjabi University, Patiala. Dean, Student Welfare, Provost and Addl. Provost (Girls) were especially present at the occasion.
