Eco Club at Punjabi University Campus conducted various activities under Environment Program Education under the aegis of Nodal Agency “Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Punjab” of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department, Government of India.

The first activity on solid waste management took place on 21 February 2024 in which Prof Arvind, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University inaugurated “Vermi Compost Pit” at Homi Bhaba Hostel of the campus.

In this program, the nodal officer of the Eco Club Prof. Mamta Sharma along with its members,Dr. Lakhvir Singh, Dr. Sandeep Singh, Dr. Simranjit Singh, and Dr. Abhinav Bhandari, NSS Volunteers and students of the campus participated.

The students were made aware about the importance of vermicompost in managing solid waste that vermicompost helps in solid waste reduction and the compost produced during this process is used as natural fertilizer which is far better than chemical fertilizers.

Another activity in the continuity of the ECO Club was done students in collaboration with Round Glass Foundation on 23rd February 2024, on the day of 8th NSS Youth Convention. About 1000 volunteers from various colleges affiliated to the university participated in this awareness program.

The students were enlightened through different banners related to environment conservation and environment protection highlighting the importance of wet and dry waste.

Under the third activity of, an awareness rally was organized at university campus and village Daun-Khurd Patiala to save the environment. In this rally, people were motivated to separate the wet and dry waste of the houses and also encouraged to keep the environment clean.

The fourth activity of ECO-CLUB was dedicated to Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s Martyrdom Day on 23rd March 2024 in which eco club members, especially Dr Lakhvir Singh,planted 200 saplings at village Daun-Kalan and 600 heritage saplings at village Raipur Mandla with the support of Round Glass Foundation.

Punjabi University students enthusiastically participated in Eco Club activities . The volunteers and students informed the villagers that the purpose of planting these plants is to provide a clean environment to the coming generations. Prof. Mamta Sharma expressed her special thanks to the nodal agency “Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Punjab” for setting up Eco-CLUBS in the university campus and its affiliated colleges which helped Eco club members, volunteers,& students to do ecofriendly activities.
