Punjabi University syndicate meeting held; key decisions taken

Punjabi University, Patiala held its Syndicate meeting here today. The online meeting held under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. B. S. Ghuman was attended by the Secretary Higher Education Punjab and Member of Syndicate Rahul Bhandari, Dean Academic Affairs Dr. Gurdeep Singh Batra, Director, Department of Education (Colleges) Dr. Indu Malhotra, Punjab Government nominee Harinderpal Singh Harimann, K.D. Singh, Nar Bahadur Verma, Director, Language Department Punjab, Karamjeet Kaur, and other nominated members including Dr. Jyotsana, Dr. B.S.Sandhu, Dr. Satnam Singh, Dr. Sarbjinder Singh, Dr. Jagrup Kaur, , Dr. Sukhveer Singh, Dr. Chiranjiv Kaur, Dr. Simrat Kaur and Registrar of the University Dr. Davinderpal Singh Sidhu.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Ghuman highlighted in the meeting that in the recent past University has scaled new heights by makings various academic and research achievements in many fields. He said that the Punjabi University reaching at 64th position in the National Institute of Ranking Framework rankings in June this year which in itself is a historic achievement, has helped it emerge as one of the leading universities in the country. Similarly, in the same year the Punjabi University has also been positioned at 18th rank among public sector universities across the country and first among the State universities in Punjab in the national rankings by the Education World. A remarkable achievement has been made by the University with the development of a formulation using nanotechnology interventions, to create an aqueous dispersible form of turmeric, using a unique combination of components and also getting Indian Patent on “Biosensor Device and Method for estimation of urea in milk. With these two patents University has enabled the research reach at technology transfer stage for the larger benefits at health development levels.
The Punjabi University by receiving ‘Vajra’ project from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, getting in campus placements of interested and eligible students in the major engineering streams during the last session, successfully conducting of online important administrative activities including teaching and research during the Covid-19 period, including Webinars, Viva, Internship etc. besides the holding of important finance committee meeting, the foundation day celebrations etc. has been marching ahead with great strength. Prof. Ghuman also informed that this time the engineering courses have got tremendous response by receiving admission forms more than last year. Besides, the number of international aspirants for admissions in our university is almost triple than last year. He also told that Centre for e-learning and Teaching Excellence has further strengthened us on our online front. Likewise, in a major decision, our Intellectual Property Right and Technology Transfer has also been approved. Besides the Syndicate has also approved all the major decisions taken by the university.
It is also worth mentioning here that University had made all the preparations to present the inquiry reports submitted by the inquiry committee. However when the Registrar started reading the reports, it was suggested by some members that in the absence of reports their hands, it will not be possible for them to read and discuss. Instead the sealed reports be sent to all the syndicate members, they recommended. It was unanimously decided that these reports would be discussed thereafter in the next syndicate meeting. Agenda of the meeting was read by the Registrar D.S.Sidhu and vote of thanks was proposed by DAA Dr. G.S. Batra.
