Punjabi university VC’s decision didn’t go down well with PUTA; opposed registrar’s appointment

Today, Punjabi university vice chancellor Ravneet Kaur IAS, had appointed a senior faculty member Dr Varinder Kumar Kaushik as the new registrar of the university. VC’s this decision didn’t go down well with PUTA.

After the appointment of new registrar, Punjabi University Teachers Association (PUTA) staged a protest, outside the vice chancellor office and opposed Ravinder Kaushik’s appointment, as registrar.

As per PUTA general secretary Avneet Pal Singh, “earlier, in the day Punjabi university vice chancellor Ravneet Kaur IAS, came under heavy police protection, in the university.” He further said that “the heavy police deployment in the university, on the arrival of vice chancellor, created a panic situation in the campus.”

He further informed that the PUTA members along with A class officers association, B and C class association staged a peaceful dharna, outside the vice chancellor’s office.

Later the vice chancellor called up the representatives of these associations for a meeting. A combined group of PUTA, Class A, B, C association representatives went to meet the VC, at her office.

In the meeting, PUTA president Nishan Singh Deol opposed the appointment of new registrar and asked the VC that she is adopting the “divide and rule” policy. Deol further added that “he had informed the VC about the resolution passed by PUTA in their general house. Deol said in yesterday’s general house of PUTA, the general house has passed a resolution, that “we will oppose any appointment made by the university authority, on any post, till our demands were not met”

Punjabi university VC’s decision didn’t go down well with PUTA; opposed registrar’s appointment. Deol further informed that “the meeting between the VC and the association, once again remained non decisive, due to the adamant behaviour of VC.”

Gurinderpal Singh Bubby, President A Class officers association, Shapinder Singh president B &C Class association also condemned the VC’s act, for not adhering to their demands.
