Punjabi University VC’s personnel interest in student’s placement resulted in 100% placements

Punjabi University Vice Chancellor Prof BS Ghuman took personnel initiative in the student’s placement drive gave positive results. The recruitment season for the year 2019-20 opened with a remarkable upswing in its placement record. It has succeeded in hitting a high note by getting 100 placements done with 366 offers by 36 high profile companies with packages ranging from four to 12.6 lakhs. Students Drish preet Singh Dhir of Computer Science department got placement in Future First, Infosys and TCS. Like wise Shivam Saluja of ECE branch got placement in TCS, Western Shipping. Both students got 12.60 lacs package.
With the Vice-Chancellor himself slogging and toiling day and night and discussing the issues with the corporate companies’ officials in person, the university prepared the students well in advance with mock interviews and other capacity building initiatives to make the students ready for the jobs, which helped it increasing the success rate during the placement drive. The university adopted multipronged approach to make its students job creators as well by energizing and promoting the entrepreneurship capabilities amongst its students. The university has signed MOU with world’s reputed University of British Colombia, Canada for sending twenty students to the UBC every year as a part of capacity building measure.
Prof BS Ghuman, Vice-Chancellor, said that “the event carried lot of significance at a time when the country was facinga frightening unemployment rate and with its economy nosediving at an alarming rate. The biggest role in achieving this unprecedented success during the recent times was played by University’s newly set up Entrepreneurship, placement and finishing school with the objective of reducing the gap between domain knowledge of the students and the market requirements, he said.”
Prof Ghuman further said that looking at the results that the preparedness for these placement drive, led by Director, Placement Cell, Dr Manjit Singh, the University has earmarked Rs 15 crore of the 50 crore grant received from RUSA. The University was not facing any financial crunch as far as academia was concerned, he said. The Chief Minister, whom Prof Ghuman met yesterday, assured all help to the university given its splendid achievements in the field of its placement,
According to Dr ManjitSingh,a host of companies were invited on the campus to conduct placement drives for the pass out batches of the various departments of the University. The placements opened with the global leader in technology services and consulting, Infosys selecting 104 students. This witnessed some other sessions of successful placements from such reputed corporate houses like Futurefirst, Quark, SAPLabs, TCS, Western Shipping, Zoxima Solutions, NIIT Technologies, Daffodils, Xenonstack, TT Consultants, Bebo Technologies, Safeaeon, Cognizant, Enest, etc. at lucrative salary packages. The offers were made for varied profiles like System Analyst, Systems Engineer, Product Engineer, Analog/Digital Engineer, Software developer, Engineer Trainee, etc.
Besides, nine students got shortlisted by SIMS and Naggaro for the next level even as painstaking efforts were made to equip them with the offbeat solutions and approaches to address the upcoming challenges at the higher levels. Multiple placement drives have been organized since the first quarter of the session to make sure the students get enough opportunities to showcase their skills and knowledge to the companies of national and International repute.
