Punjab’s first woman police officer posted as SSP in politically sensitive district-a litmus test of her policing skills

Today, Punjab government has issued transfer orders of three IPS officers and posted Ravjot Grewal, IPS officer of 2015 as the new senior superintendent of police (SSP), Tarn Taran. As per Punjab govt orders, Deepak Pareek, IPS, SSP, Tarn Taran has been transferred as AIG,SSOC, Punjab, SAS Nagar, Mohali.
Ravjot Grewal, IPS has become the first woman officer to join the border district of Punjab as SSP Tarn Taran.Now, its time for Ravjot Grewal to show her policing skills . She will be the seventh SSP of Tarn Taran in the present around three and a half years of AAP government.
Before her Ranjit Singh Dhillon, Gurmeet Singh Chuhan, ashwani Kapoor, Gaurav Toora, Abhimanyu Rana, Deepak Pareek remained SSP of this political sensitive border district of Punjab.
The alleged trouble maker MLA of Tarn Tarn Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal has passed away and the court has announced Kahdoor Sahib MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura as guilty in an old case.
Ranjit Singh Dhillon was the first SSP of Tarn Taran in AAP Govt’s tenure who was transferred from the post under political pressure. Late Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal and some other MLAs of the district had met top state police officials and demanded the transfer of SSP from here.He remained posted for around seven months.
In 2023, an IPS officer posted as SSP Tarn Taran Gurmeet Singh Chauhan was transferred after a tiff with AAP MLA Khadoor sahib Lalpura after police booked MLA’s kin in a case. Chauhan was kept waiting for a posting for more than three months.

After Chuhan, Gaurav Toora, along with the deputy commissioner, were transferred following complaints by the local leadership after both were spotted sharing a stage with Akali Dal former MLA Virsa Singh at a function.
Later Abhimanyu Rana’s transfer comes amidst his vocal criticism by AAP Khadoor Sahib MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura over the handling of sub-inspector Charanjit Singh case who was shot dead in April this year.Lalpura, in a post on Facebook, had levelled allegations against SSP Rana for falsely implicating locals from his constituency in connection with the murder of SI.
