Punjab’s powerful IAS officer goes powerless again

Today, Punjab government has issued transfer orders of 5 IAS officers and 1 PCS officer.

In today’s bureaucratic reshuffle, a powerful IAS officer Gurkiratkirpal Singh of 2001 batch who is holding the charge of Administrative Secretary, Home Affairs and in addition Administrative Secretary, Mines & Geology and in addition Commissioner, Gurudwara Elections, Punjab, go powerless again as all the three departments are given to three other IAS officers and in lieu of this no posting is given to him.

The charge of Administrative Secretary, Home Affairs is given to Alok Shekhar, IAS. Similarly the charge of Administrative Secretary, Mines & Geology has been given to Jaspreet Talwar, IAS. Also the Commissioner, Gurudwara Elections, Punjab charge is allotted to Dilraj singh, IAS.

This is second time in the present government tenure that Gurkiratkirpal Singh, IAS is without any posting. Earlier, Gurkiratkirpal Singh, was transferred as secretary food, supplies after a controversy erupted with another IAS officer and some department’s internal politics on September 26,2022 and was given no positing orders for two weeks. Later he was given the charge of secretary tourism and cultural affairs in October 2022.
