PUP English department research scholars discuss the forthcoming Punjab elections

Researcher scholars of the Department of English, Punjabi University, Patiala organised an open discussion on the forthcoming Punjab elections on 15th February, 2022. The students of M.A. English also participated enthusiastically in it. Primarily, the aim of the discussion was to deliberate on various issues that were missing from the election manifestos issued by different political parties particularly issues concerning education.
Apart from this, the students discussed the lapse of the political parties to focus on issues related to health, employment, ecology, and migration. The students condemned the use of liquor, money and muscle by political parties in order to sway the voters. They focused on the possibility of a more democratic form of political process that could emerge in Punjab. The chairperson of the department, Dr Rajesh Kumar Sharma, appreciated the efforts and talked about the significance of such discussions. Brahamjeet Singh and Harveer Singh, research scholars of the department, acted as moderators of the discussion.
