Rana KP Singh leads Cong protest dharna over BBMB issue

Congress workers led by Punjab assembly speaker Rana KP Singh staged a dharna in front of the office of the chief engineer Bhakra dam at Nangal on Monday to protest against the amendment to the Bhakra Beas Management Board(BBMB) against rights of Punjab by the centre.
While addressing the dharna Rana KP Singh said that Centre had deprived the Punjab and Haryana of its rights and privileges by amending the BBMB Rules 1974.
He said that with the amended rules ,the whole- time members . of BBMB could now be appointed through open selection instead of earlier practice of appointment of member(power) from Punjab and member(irrigation) from Haryana.
He said that the new conditions were totally detrimental to the interests of Punjab and Haryana.
He alleged that its was an direct attack on the federalism by the centre and people of Punjab would not tolerate the same.
He also alleged the the centre had also decided to hand over the security of Bhakra dam to Central Industrial Security Force(CISF) instead of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh police.
Rana KP Singh also urged the BBMB employees to participate in the protest through pen down strike over the issue and warned that if the notification regarding amended rules was not withdrawn an agitation bigger than the farmers agitation would be launched.
He also appealed to all the parties of the state to come on one platform by rising above the petty politics to jointly fight against this injustice by the centre.
While addressing the dharna senior Congress leaders and Municipal Councillor advocate Paramjit Singh Pamma also slammed centre over the issue and announced that protest dharna would be organised by the Congress every day in front of the office of chief engineer Bhakra dam.
He said that if needed the residences of central ministers at Delhi and Chandigarh would also be gheraoed and these ministers and BBMB chairman would not be allowed to enter Nangal and would also be gheraoed.

Nangal Municipal Council president Sanjay Sahni,Improvement Trust chairman Rakesh Nayyar,Municipal Councillor Surinder Pamma,Balwinder Bali,Indu Bala,Deepak Nanda,Congress leaders Dr.Ravinder Diwan, Anandpur Sahib Municipal Council president Harjit Singh Jeeta,Uma Kant Sharma,Jaswinder Singh Saini were also present on the occasion.
