Rare Feat: Punjab’s ADGP gets one year extension in service

Punjab government has given one year extension to Punjab police ADGP Ajay Kumar Pandey as a special case.
Pandey is basically from CRPF and is absorbed in Punjab police. He is a non IPS officer, posted as ADGP, special protection unit is going to retire on January 31,2026 . Now after extension, he will retire on January 31,2027. Pandey was posted as ADGP SPU in January 2022
The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has maintained a strict policy against granting extensions in service to government employees beyond their superannuation age, prioritizing the recruitment of younger, unemployed youth. The government has largely abolished the optional extension of service for employees after reaching the age of retirement (58 or 60 years).
The orders are issued by Governor of Punjab instead by President of India.
