Red letter day in the history of GNDU; CM inaugurated, laid foundation of various projects

First time in the history of Guru Nanak Dev University, as many as four projects The Golden Jubilee Centre for Entrepreneurship & Innovation of about 3.5 crores; School of Education under PMMMNMTT Scheme of 6.10 crores; Department of Mass Communication of 2.45 crores and Department of Hotel Management & Tourism of 3.30 crores were inaugurated by Captain Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister Punjab, here today. Earlier, Chief Minister was warmly received by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu and his team on reaching the University campu He also laid the foundation stones of Shooting Range about 1.58 crores and New Sports Hostel for Boys & Girls of 12.42 crore On this occasion, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Minister of Higher Education O.P. Soni, Cabinet Minister; Sukhbinder Singh Sukh Sarkaria, Cabinet Minister; Gurjit Singh Aujla, MP; Mohamad Sadeek, MLA; Sangat Singh Giljian, MLA; Dr. Raj Kumar Verka, MLA; Santokh Singh Bhaliapur; Karamjit Singh Rintu, MayorDinesh Bassi, Chairman Improvement Trust; Bhagwant Pal Singh Sachhar, President, Distt. Congress Committee Rural and Prof. Hardip Singh, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Karanjeet Singh Kahlon, Registrar, Prof. Sarbjot Singh Behl, O.D. and other officials of the University were present.
Keeping in view the Covid-19 restrictions, a special programme on launch of Sant Prem Singh Murale Wale Chair was organized in the Dasmesh Auditorium of the University. Captain Amarinder Singh, on this occasion, appreciated the achievements of the University and congratulated Vice Chancellor Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu and the University fraternity for this success
The Chief Minister hoped these projects would be instrumental in helping the University further cement its position amongst the best Universities in the country. The Sant Prem Singh Murale Wale Chair, he said, will help scholars and researchers undertake extensive research on the life and philosophy of the great saint, who was a pioneer of the practice of imparting formal education at a time when education was not considered important. He expressed the confidence that the research done here would not remain confined to the University’s library but would be published as books etc to enable the world to know about the saint’s contribution and sacrifice Pointing out that the Internet had made the world smaller and more connected, the Chief Minister said it was the duty of the current generation to ensure that the coming generations know about the great personalities who have shaped the country.
In response to concern expressed by Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa about paucity of funds, he said grants would be increased for such research. Bajwa, in his introductory remarks, had lamented that the chairs established in universities die their own death due to paucity of fund
