Release Rs. 60,000 Crore special relief package for Punjab: MP Malvinder Singh Kang to Centre

Anandpur Sahib Member of  Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang on Thursday, while reviewing the status of Dhussi Bandh of Satluj river here, sought special relief package of Rs. 60,000 crore from Union Government for Punjab in view of devastation due to floods.

Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Ankurjeet Singh and Balachaur SDM Kritika Goya, Member Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang said that a minimum compensation of Rs. 50,000 should be announced for per acre damage in the state. He said Punjab had been always a frontrunner in tough time in the country and the Union Government should sympathetically consider the situation arisen due to floods in this border State thus a Special Relief Package of Rs. 60,000 crore should be given.

The Member Parliament also demanded that Centre should exempt Punjab from paying GST for the next two years. He also announced that he would release the remaining amount of MPLAD funds for this year on priority basis to help flood affected areas and victims of this massive destruction.

Deputy Commissioner Ankurjeet Singh apprised the Member Parliament about the current situation of bandh in the district. Kang said after the circumstances become normal, the major points alongside the river Satluj would be strengthen. He reiterated that Punjab Government’s major priority is to save people and safeguard the localities along the river bandh and it was being ensured in the district with the help and support of villagers.  He said that the water level in the Sutlej river may increase due to the water being released from the Bhakra Dam, but at present the situation of the embankments in Balachaur and Nawanshahr constituencies are completely under control. Chairman of the District Planning Committee Satnam Singh Jalalpur, Additional Deputy Commissioner Avneet Kaur, residents of various villages and officers of the departments were also present on this occasion.
