Renowned orthopedician Dr. Ramesh Sen awarded fellowship by National Academy of Medical Sciences

The National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) has conferred its prestigious fellowship upon Dr. Ramesh Sen, Principal Director and head of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Max Super Speciality Hospital Mohali.
This esteemed honour was bestowed upon Dr. Sen for the year 2023 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of Orthopedic Surgery.
Dr. Ramesh Sen’s recognition is a testament to his exceptional career spanning over 35 years. During this time, he has authored approximately 250 research papers, penned over 20 book chapters, and delivered over 500 guest lectures, with over 100 abroad. His extensive expertise has also led to five research patents, more than 30 Oration awards, and over 10 Fellowship awards, including the prestigious SAARC Countries Golden Award and the 1st Golden Jubilee Oration Award by the Indian Orthopaedic Association.
To date only 30 Orthopedic Surgeons from all over the country have been awarded with this fellowship and Dr Sen is the 2nd orthopaedic surgeon who is not working in any academic institution to have been given this honour. His journey began in 1993 when Dr. Sen joined PGIMER as an Assistant Professor, eventually retiring as a Professor in 2014. Notably, Dr. Sen has served as a Visiting Professor at medical universities in the USA, Canada, and Germany, where he presented Grand Rounds at prestigious institutions such as Harvard University and the University of Virginia.
Dr. Sen’s proficiency shines in Joint replacement surgery, particularly in handling revision hip and knee arthroplasty surgeries. He represents the Asia-Pacific region in the ‘five members’ AO International Pelvic Expert Group, showcasing his extensive experience in managing Pelvic-acetabular trauma.
Dr. Sen’s commitment to education is evident through his involvement in over 75 cadaveric skill workshops for surgeons and over 30 live surgical training courses, both nationally and internationally. He has also held leadership positions, serving as the First President of ‘The Association of Pelvi-acetabular Surgeons of India,’ President of ‘The North Zone Orthopaedic Association,’ and, most recently, President of the Indian Orthopaedics Association.

Established on December 19th, 1961, and inaugurated by India’s first Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, The National Academy of Medical Sciences is a prestigious institution under the Government of India. It leverages academic excellence to meet medical and social goals.
