Rs 26 lacs penalty imposed by PSPCL on a dera for theft of electricity

A spokesman of PSPCL disclosed that enforcement wing of Punjab state power corporation limited got a big success when the team caught a direct theft of electricity being committed by a dera situated at Bhikhiwind in district Tarn Taran.

Spokesman said that enforcement team of Tarn Taran was investigating a complaint regarding the theft of electricity in this case.During the investigation team found at the site that the theft of electricity was being committed by directly connecting a 300 KVA transformer to the nearby HT lines. Spokesman further added that during the checking a huge unauthorised load being used illegally was detected which includes 17 no ac’s, 7 no geyser, 4 no motors, 196 no lights and 87 no fans. Sub division officer Sur Singh has sent a notice of 26 lacs rupees as penalty for theft of electricity and a FIR has also been lodged in anti power theft police station, Verka Amritsar to take action against the consumer as per law.
Yesterday, the enforcement teams carried out checking of specific residences in Patiala . During checking Gurbaj Singh Cheema, a police official was caught indulging in power theft through “Direct Kundi ” via underground wires. An amount of Rs 55,000/- penalty has been charged for this violation and the cable used in power theft has been seized on the spot. The consumer has been directed to deposit the amount and intimation has been sent to the Anti Power Theft Police Station as per Electricity Act 2003. As per instructions of higher authorities, strict action will be taken against any person having involved in such cases.
