Rupnagar ADC (D) reviews progress reports of Govt. departments following NGT directions

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Damanjit Singh reviewed progress reports of stakeholders departments following NGT directions in 14th meeting of District Environment Committee held here on Wednesday.

Damanjit Singh said that all the stakeholder departments submitted their progress reports. The major issue which was emphasised during the meeting was management of Solid Waste by all the Municipal Councils. Other issues such as Bio-Medical Waste disposal, Sewage Treatment, Noise Pollution, E-waste Management and others related environment issues were deliberated in the meeting.

He said that to monitor various activities relating to environmental issues, District Environment Plans (DEP) have been prepared for each District in the State of Punjab. District Environment Committees have been constituted by the State Government under the Chairmanship of respective Deputy Commissioners with ADC (D) as its Member Secretary. All the activities envisaged in DEP are being monitored on monthly basis.

He said that deputy commissioner, Rupnagar specifically conveyed that no laxity in this matter will be tolerated. All the stakeholder departments assured the Administration that compliance of NGT directions will be ensured at ground level.

The DDPO also submitted a detailed Action Plan for the proper handling of carcasses in the District. He also elaborated the complete road map for the implementation of Solid Waste Rules and NGT directions in the rural areas.
