SAD field son against father’s wish from Sangrur

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal announced to field former Punjab finance minister and MLA Parminder Singh Dhindsa , son of Rajya Sabha Member Parliament, and former union minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa who had resigned as SAD’s secretary general and from its core committee, from Sangrur, for the upcoming Lok Sabha election

An announcement to this effect was made by SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal in a party release here.

Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa who had resigned as SAD’s secretary general and from its core committee citing health reasons, last year, has advised his son Parminder Singh Dhindsa  not to contest on SAD ticket.

Sangrur is currently represented in the Lok Sabha by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab chief Bhagwant Mann.

The Congress is yet to announce its candidate for the seat.

With the declaration of Dhindsa Junior from Sangrur, the total number of announced of Akali Dal candidates goes to 6 out of 10 seats. Now 4 seats of SAD kitty-Bathinda, Ferozepur, Faridkot,  Ludhiana and 3 seats of BJP-Amritsar, Hoshiarpur and Gurdaspur were yet to be announced. Out of the total 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab, the Akali Dal will contest 10 while its ally BJP will fight on three seats as per the seat-sharing arrangement.

The seven-phase Lok Sabha polls will be held from April 11 to May 19 and the counting of votes will be taken up on May 23. Punjab will go to polls in a single phase on May 19.
