Sangrur administration distributed 20,000 free sanitary pads to ensure menstrual hygiene-DC

Deputy Commissioner Sangrur  Ghanshyam Thori, on Friday, said that to ensure menstrual hygiene among women during lockdown, distribution of free sanitary pads among women of needy families has been started in the district. He said that the women and child development department have handed over 20,000 sanitary pads under Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme to all SDMs who are monitoring the distribution process.

DC said that more than 15,000 sanitary pads have already been distributed in Sangrur. He added that the officials have been have been directed to ensure the availability of sanitary pads to needy women across the district.

Ghanshyam Thori said that besides providing free sanitary pads, the anganwadi workers also sensitised the women about symptoms of coronavirus. He added that the workers also motivated them to use safe products for proper menstrual hygiene. He said that for effective menstrual hygiene management, the dedicated efforts are being made to create awareness.

Meanwhile, DPO Gagandeep Singh said that the anganwadi workers are providing sanitary pads at the door steps of the needy women in all the blocks. He added apart from this drive, they have also distributed sanitary pads in Sangrur during lockdown.
