‘Sarpanch to DC Tak’: former IAS officer autobiography unveiled by Divisional Commissioner Daljit Singh Mangat

Today, Divisional Commissioner, Patiala Daljit Singh Mangat of released the autobiographical book ‘Sarpanch to DC Tak’ by former IAS officer Dr. Harkesh Singh Sidhu at the Language Department’s head office. The event was graced by the presence of Jaswant Singh Jaffar, Director of the Language Department. During the discussion, scholars acclaimed Dr. Sidhu’s autobiography as a significant contribution to literature.

Commissioner Mangat praised Dr. Sidhu as an officer committed to upholding truth and justice, highlighting his courageous service and dedication to the public interest. Reflecting on their early days in service together, Mangat lauded Sidhu’s journey from a PCS officer to the Deputy Commissioner of Kapurthala, noting his tireless efforts for public welfare and integrity.

Mangat remarked that while politics may not have been the right fit for Sidhu, the literary world benefits immensely from his contributions to Punjabi literature. Jaswant Singh Jaffar, presiding over the event, emphasized the symbolism in the title ‘Sarpanch to DC Tak,’ capturing Sidhu’s remarkable journey. He announced Sidhu’s appointment as the chief advisor to the Language Department, with Dr. Rajinder Singh Brar serving as Deputy Advisor.

In his address, Dr. Harkesh Singh Sidhu expressed gratitude to Daljit Singh Mangat and the assembled dignitaries, sharing insights into the creation of his book and recounting his life’s journey. Dr. Rajinder Singh Brar, presenting the main paper on the book, highlighted its motivational value for aspiring officers, appreciating its transparent portrayal of Sidhu’s life.

Pammi Bai noted that the book, by illuminating Sidhu’s struggles, would inspire youth to persevere. He commended Sidhu for staying connected to his rural roots, heritage, and land despite his high-ranking positions. Various scholars also discussed the book’s social and literary significance. The event was moderated by former DPRO Ujagar Singh, with Sukhwinder Singh Phul delivering the vote of thanks.
