Science Week Festival “Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate” concluded at Guru Nanak Dev University

The Science Week Festival “Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate”was concluded here today in the Guru Nanak Dev University campus. The Department of Physics, Guru Nanak Dev University hosted this fest under the able guidance and leadership of Prof (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor. This festival was supported by the state nodal agency Punjab State Council for Science and Technology and Vigyan Prasar within its flagship program SCoPE “Science & Technology Communication, Popularization & its Extension” under the support of the Ministry of Culture and Office of the PSA, Government of India. Thousands of students and subject experts particiapted in these days.

The objective of this Science Week festival was to explore the evolution of science and technology and its vital and intriguing intersections with culture, curriculum and society through a multitude of creative and thought provoking programmes. A series of short films showcasing the unsung heroes from the Indian scientific community was unveiled at this festival. A variety of innovative and immersive scientific talks, competitions and programmes were designed for this festival by the benevolent organizing team to nurture young minds.

Dr. Bindiya Arora, Local Coordinator, Department of Physics of the University said that this festival aimed to explore and celebrate science in every possible way by bringing together a diverse group of professionals to engage and inspire a wide range of audience from various schools, colleges and general public. Participants were motivated and enlightened with scientific temperament from this event. The festival catered the holistic and cognitive approach towards science and technology, which is the need of the hour.\

 

Science Week Festival “Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate” concluded at Guru Nanak Dev University. On the very first day of Inauguration of Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate Prof. Dinesh Singh, Padam Shri awardee and Chancellor, K.R. Mangalam University was the chief guest and Prof. Hardeep Singh, Dean Academic Affairs inaugurated the fest.  In this fest, Science Book Fair, Science Exposition, Vigyan Safari, Photo Booth and Science Film Screening were included. On this occasion, Prof. (Dr) D.P. Singh (HOD Physics); Prof. Prof. (Dr) Aman Mahajan (Co-Convenor); Prof. (Dr) B.S. Bajwa, Dean Placements; Prof. (Dr) R.C. Singh, Honorary Professor; Prof. (Dr) K.J. Singh; Dr. Anupinder Singh; Dr. Parambir S. Malhi and Dr. Balbir Singh, Yatin Batra (Event Manager) and about 400 students & other participants were present.

From the Annals of History was the main theme of the second day of festival.  On this day Mr. Dharamvir IAS (Retd); Prof. Kya Dharamvir, SPSTI, Panchkula;and Mr. Harjit Singh (ISRO) were the guests of Honour. Expert lecture, to develop a healthy scientific rational temperament in the younger generation, by Prof. Anish K. Dua, Dean, Student Welfare and an another expert lecture by Mr. Harjit Singh on Eminent scientists of Punjab and Career guidance, followed by a Q&A was also delivered. Science Magic Show was presented by Dr Kya Dharamvir.

Third day themed around “Milestones in Science and Technology. An expert lecture was delivered by Shri Gurwinder Singh, SCL Chandigarh. Students from various eminent schools, colleges, and universities participated in the two competitions namely SciWalk (Fancy Dress Competition for school category ) and VIBGYOR (Rangoli Competition for college/university category). Winners of  SciWalk are: First prize- Cylvia , F51, Bright Land School, Amritsar. Second prize- Shrey Chaudhary, F63, The Millennium School, Amritsar. Third prize- Ekamjot Kaur, F54, Holy Heart Presidency School, Amritsar. Consolation prize winners- Kairavbir Singh Osahan, F64, The Millennium School, Amritsar and Manjot Kaur, F44, GGSSS Tapiala. Winners of VIBGYOR are: First prize- Pranvi and Lalit, R16, SSM College. Second prize- Khushpal Singh and Prabjot Kaur, R4, Sri Guru Angad Dev College, Khadur Sahib, Taran Tarn. Third prize- Lavleen Saini and Ankita, R17, KMVJalandhar. Consolation prizes- Aryamann and Chanchal Navel, R3, Guru Nanak Dev University College, Pathankot and Kritika Saini and Manpreet Kaur, R20, KMV Jalandhar.

Swadeshi Paramparik Vigyan & Proudyogiki was the fourth day theme. Dr Kamini Walia, Senior Scientist, ICMR, New Delhi delivered an expert lecture. SciWars (Science model exhibition and competition for school category) & Poster Competition (for college/university category) were the major competitions of this day. Winners of Poster Competition are: First prize- MYAS Department,  GNDU Second prize- DAV College, Jalandhar  Third prize- Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara Consolation prizes- Human Genetics GNDU, and Sri Guru Angad Dev College of Education, Khadur Sahib Tarn Taran. Winners of Model Competition are: First prize- DCM Presidency School, Ludhiana. Second prize- Baba Sohan Singh GSSS Bhakna Kalan. Third prize- Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Golden Avenue, Amritsar. Consolation prizes- Holy Heart Presidency School and GSSS Khilchian.

The fifth day was dedicated to Film, Theatre and Literature Festival. The event included the Release of “AVRITI” magazine, by Prof Behl (GNDU), Dr. NPS Saini, Dr Bindiya Arora, Dr Rajesh Kumar, Yatin Batra and Priyanka Sharma, which is an effort to promote Science and Technology in India among the students and the general public irrespective of any social and demographic limitations; followed by an expert lecture by Prof. Behl on the importance of holistic approach for Science and Technology and a skit “VIGYAN NATAK” was performed by University Drama Team under the able guidance of Dr. Sunil, Department of Hindi. The major competitions of the day included Scribbles and SciWriters (scientific story writing and narrating competition for school category and college/university category respectively) in order to develop a scientific narrative and rational thoughts in the future pillars of our nation. Winners of Scribble: First prize- Diya Sharma, Bright land school Amritsar. Second prize- Ashmeet Kaur, GSSS Mehal Jandiala. Third prize- Manpreet Kaur, GGSSS Tapiala Chogawan. Consolation Prize- Jagjeet Singh, GSSSS Majitha, and Simran Thakur, Bright land school Amritsar. Winners of SciWriter are: First prize- Akansksha Vig, DAV college Jalandhar. Second prize- Nikhil Kumar, S.D. college Barnala. Third prize- Sana, Khalsa college Amritsar. Consolation prizes- Amandeep Kaur, Guru Nanak college Batala and Simranpreet kaur, Guru nanak college Batala.

The Road Ahead for Next 25 years of Indian Science and Technology was the theme of fifth day. Dr RC Singh, Honorary Professor, Department of Physics of the University delivered an expert lecture. That day had an Idea Pitching Declamation Competition “SciVision” in which student-speakers from various eminent schools and colleges delivered a talk regarding their viewpoint of the future of Science and Technology in India. The results of SciVision for College/university category are: First prize – Vipul (Biotechnology Dept, GNDU) Second prize – Khushpal Singh (Sri Guru Angad Dev College of Education, Tarn Taran) Third prize – Harpreet Singh (DAV College, Amritsar) Consolation prizes- Chahat (Khalsa College, Amritsar) and Sanidhya Sharma(Electronics Dept, GNDU) The results of SciVision for school category are: First prize – Shweta (GSSS Katra Karam Singh, Amritsar) Second prize – Navtesh Thakur (Holy Heart Presidency School) Third Prize – Meenakshi Sharma (GGSS MS Gate Shivala, Amritsar) Consolation prizes – Ashmeet Kaur(GSSS Mehal Jandiala) and Harsimranjit Kaur (GGSS MS GATE Shivala, Amritsar). The celebrations of this day were coordinated by Dr. Bindiya Arora (Convener) and Dr. Aman Mahajan (co-convener).

The Grand Finale of Vigyan Sarvatra Pujayte was conducted today.  Prof. D.P. Singh, Head, Physics; Prof. Sukhprit Singh, Head, Chemistry; Prof. Manoj Kumar, Controller of Examinations, GNDU; Prof. Vandana Bhalla, Chemistry was the guests of the day. Prize distribution function for all the winners of various events held during one week long science festival. Open day for more than 50 students from selected schools to visit Central Instrumentation Facility of Guru Nanak Dev University.
