Secretary UGC delivered a webinar on National Education Policy 2020 at GNDU

UGC-HRDC Guru Nanak Dev University organized a webinar on National Education Policy 2020. The event was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu with Secretary UGC Prof. Rajnish Jain as the keynote speaker. Prof. Sandhu welcomed Prof. Jain and apprised him of the efforts of UGC-HRDC, GNDU in Faculty Development Programmes. He shared the state of the art facilities including a recording studio, available at the centre which is housed in a six storey building and wished that the centre be upgraded to a Nodal Centre for the Resource in Human Development. As many as 200 faculty members from GNDU, other universities and colleges participated in the webinar.
In his address to the teachers, Prof. Rajnish Jain talked about the initiatives being undertaken by the UGC in implementing NEP 2020. The new version of the policy, he said, was student oriented and aims at holistic development of students to create better citizens with high ethical and moral standards apart from subject knowledge. He deliberated that NEP 2020 needs to be understood in entirety as to how it will impact all stake holders including the teachers as well as students.
NEP 2020 is opening numerous scenarios in a refined manner which will help achieving the futuristic targets of developing students who have a global perspective, promoting intellectual curiosity, value addition and skill development to make them successful entrepreneurs in their chosen fields. It also takes into consideration the spirit of service as supreme and instilling in the young generation a sense of pride to be Indians and the inputs from the Indian knowledge system have been included as well.
Prof. Jain also explained the credit based system and mentioned that there were new policies on PhD. As well where a student would be eligible after completing a four year course subject to achieving a minimum academic standard in the form of credits in their degree courses. He also talked about the upcoming curriculum of Life Skills which will include digital communication skills, ICT communication skills etc. He invited the teachers to share their inputs in the drafted policies directly with him and if worthwhile, they will get due consideration in finalizing the guidelines.
Secretary UGC delivered a webinar on National Education Policy 2020 at GNDU. The session involved extensive discussion by the participating faculty members and college principles. Prof. Jain congratulated the Vice Chancellor and expressed his satisfaction that HRDC, GNDU is taking the legacy of providing training to teachers forward and wished his desire to visit the centre in person soon.
Director HRDC Prof. SudhaJitender and Deputy Director Dr. Rajbir Bhatti briefed the participants about activities of the centre and coordinator Prof. RS Sawhney thanked the dignitaries for their participation.
