Senior IAS appointed PSERC chairperson by Punjab government

Punjab government has appointed senior IAS officer of 1987 batch Vishwajeet Khanna, Additional Chief Secretary –cum-Financial Commissioner, Revenue and Rehabilitation, as the new chairperson of Punjab state electricity regulatory commission.

Senior IAS appointed PSERC chairperson by Punjab government. As per the orders, he will replace Kusumjit kaur Sidhu, the present chairperson, after completion of her term on 12th April, 2021.

Khanna born on 2nd June, 1961, holds a Masters degree in English, Master of Business Administration (MBA), and Graduated in English from University of Delhi. He also holds Bachelor of Law. Khanna is a holder of a Private Pilots License (P.P.L). He entered in Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1987. Prior to entering to Government he also served in private sector for four years. He was qualified All India Examination for probationary officer of SBI and worked couple of years in banks. He holds several posts in Government of Punjab. Some of important positions include Deputy Commissioner Patiala, Labor commissioner and Director of Factories, MD Punjab Warehousing Corporation, Punjab State Industrial Development, Registrar cooperative Societies, Principal Secretary Civil Aviation, Science & Technology, Environment and Non Conventional Sources of energy, Principal Secretary of Dy. Chief Minister, Financial commissioner Cooperatives, Forest & wildlife and Housing & Urban Development and several other departments over the span of 30 years. He likes playing Golf, Cricket, squash and Badminton besides other interest in reading, music, movies and painting. Mr. Khanna was part of Indian Delegation of ICA General Assembly, Columbia and World Bank at Washington DC in 2005, and ICA Asia Pacific General Assembly & Asia Pacific Cooperative Forum, Hanoi, Vietnam in 2008. He was Organizing Secretary of Punjab State Rural Games conducted in 1999 in Ludhiana on the pattern of National Games and also National Games held in Punjab in 2001. He has credit of conceiving and implementation of a unique and socially relevant health insurance and women empowerment programmes in cooperative department entitled as Sanjivini and Bhai Ghaniya Sehat Seva covering over seven lac beneficiaries. Also key instrumental in Mai Bhago Istri Shakti Scheme to empower Women through economic upliftment. As a Secretary, Civil Aviation he was responsible for the Mohali International Airport project the first JV of its kind between AAI and state Government. This was successfully commissioned by Prime Minister of India on 11 September, 2015. He had facilitated the setting up of a Greenfield International Airport and Aerotropolis at Ludhiana. He has done commendable job in Housing sector by conceiving an affordable housing policy for the working middle class. In long span of three decades of career as a civil servant, he has handled a variety of challenging assignments in Government and handled the issues of management, administrative reforms and program implementations with a citizen centric orientation.
