Senior Punjab IAS on central deputation repatriated back on state government’s request; administrative rejig  indicated

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved repatriation of Vijoy Kumar Singh, IAS (PB:90), Secretary, Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence to his parent cadre on the request of Government of Punjab.

Singh is on central deputation since October 2017. He is going to retire on November 30,2024.

He is going to be the senior most officer in the state after his repartition to the state bureaucracy.

He may either be appointed as the chief principal secretary to the chief minister or the chief secretary. The post of chief principal secretary fall vacant after the retirement of A Venu Prasad and since than senior officer has been appointed on this key post. At present their are two special principal secretaries Ravi Bhagat and Kumar Amit , one Additional Principal Secretary Himanshu Jain. All are IAS officers.

The present chief secretary Anurag Verma is of 1993 batch.

The senior most Punjab IAS officer, Vini Mahajan of 1987 batch is already on central deputation.

Singh’s batch mate and former chief secretary Anirudh Tewari is Special Chief Secretary-cum-Director General, Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration and his elevation to CS is not possible.

Another batch mate Anurag Agarwal has recently opted central deputation.
