Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami has resigned from the post.
He has also stepped down from the seven-member committee formed by the Akal Takht Jathedar on December 2, 2024, for the reorganisation of SAD.
In a hurriedly called media briefing, Dhami announces his resignation and said he is committed to the Akal Takht.

“I being ‘pardhan’ (president of SGPC) take responsibility and resign from the post on moral grounds with immediate effect,” he said while addressing the media in Amritsar.
Dhami had been facing a moral dilemma as Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh had openly opposed the removal of Giani Harpreet Singh as the Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib, while SAD acting president Balwinder Singh Bhundar did not appear before the seven-member committee that Dhami was heading.
