Seven day NSS Camp at Govt Bikram College ends with a realization of social responsibilities

Govt. Bikram College of commerce ,Patiala organised  a seven day (Day  and Night )NSS camp from Jan 22  to Jan  28 ,2023 in  the college campus under the guidance of College Principal Pr ( Dr )Kusum Lata. The camp started with grouping of 150 NSS volunteers who participated with full cooperation, zeal and enthusiasm under the able supervision of NSS program officers and ended with the valedictory function. The Chief guest for the concluding day was Dr. Rupinderjit Kaur Saini (wife of Dr. Balbir Singh , Health Minister of Punjab). The guest was welcomed by Prof. Ram Kumar (Senior NSS program officer). The Program started with the lamp lighting ceremony. Prizes were given to the best volunteer and the best NSS group and other winners. The honorable chief guest wholeheartedly praised the sincere efforts, team work, dedication and leadership skills put in by the worthy principal. Multifarious activities were held in order to educate the volunteers about certain social, physical and psychological phenomena.

Day 1,after inauguration started with massive cleanliness drive in the campus and a  meeting with the residents of village Ucha Gaon to know about the problems being faced by them. Day 2 was reserved for visit to the adopted village Ucha Gaon by NSS volunteers. The volunteers visited the Elementary school in the village, held a cleanliness drive and an awareness rally against stubble burning, drug abuse and adoption of Punjabi language marched through the village lanes. Sarpanch of the village and the school headmaster thanked the volunteers and appreciated their efforts. On day 3, a Blood donation camp was organised which was inaugurated by Pr (Dr) Pradeep Singh Walia (Director Higher Education, Punjab and an E _Resource centre was  also inaugurated the same day by Pr (Dr) Ashwani Bhalla (Director Higher Education, Punjab ) Kite  flying competition was held. The day’s program was based on the theme of Basant.In the evening the volunteers celebrated Basant Panchami with the members of Rotaract club and students of Masti ki pathshala. On day 4 after the morning prayer an awareness program on fire safety was organised. Students were given practical training about handling fire incidents. The day was also the National voter’s day. An oath ceremony was held in which the Chief Guest Dr. Simrat Kaur, Principal Govt. Mohindra College Patiala along with the college faculty and students took a pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of the country. After lunch a visit to meet Leprosy patients to teach the volunteers the feelings of compassion and empathy for the community was planned .On 5th day, Republic Day and Lohri celebrations were held. There were different sports activities organised in later part of the day.Day 6 started with a special Lecture on ‘Women Harassment and its impacts ‘by Dr. Ritu Lehal, (Director of women’s studies cell, Punjabi University, Patiala) She detailed about the contemporary issue relating to women harassment, followed by lunch and a visit to the adopted village and to Pingla Ashram by the students.

The seven day (Day and Night) NSS camp ended with valedictory function in which the Chief Guest gave away the prizes to the winners. She motivated the students and appreciated them and the organizers for the devotion shown by them. She Demanded Cooperation from the youth to make the state ‘Rangla Punjab’. She advised them to be aware of the current issues prevailing in the state. The NSS camp ended on a happy note. Vote of Thanks was presented by Dr Vaneeta Rani. The program ended with the National Anthem.

Seven day NSS Camp at Govt Bikram College ends with a realization of social responsibilities .The others present were NSS program officers Dr Apra, Satinder Kaur, Dr.Harsimran , Gitanjali. Among others present were Sukhbir Kaur, Dr. Paramjit, Dr Jyoti, Dr. Jaspreet, Dr. Rekha , Dr. Ritu Kapoor and all teaching and non teaching staff.
