Seven-Day NSS Camp Inaugurated at Govt. Bikram College of Commerce, Patiala

On January 11, 2025, the Seven-Day NSS Camp was officially inaugurated at Govt. Bikram College of Commerce, Patiala. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. (Dr.) Kusum Lata, the Principal of the college. A total of 150 enthusiastic volunteers participated in the camp, showcasing cooperation and zeal under the able guidance of the NSS Programme Officers Shashi Bala, Asst. Prof. Satinder Kaur and Dr. Harsimran Kaur. In her inaugural address, Prof. (Dr.) Kusum Lata extended her best wishes to the volunteers, encouraging them to embrace the camp’s theme of self-reliance. The program began with the invocation of prayers and the NSS song, followed by the formation of four groups of volunteers.
The inaugural ceremony was followed by an inspiring motivational lecture titled “Never Give Up,” delivered by Dr. Harsimran Kaur. The lecture emphasized how to fulfil your dreams. On this day, NSS quiz was also conducted by her. Additionally, a pledge-taking ceremony was held, where volunteers solemnly pledged to dedicate themselves to social service and contribute towards the welfare of society.
On the second day of the camp, the volunteers participated selflessly in the college Cleanliness Drive. Following the cleanliness drive, the Program Officer, Asst. Prof. Satinder Kaur conducted a seminar on National Youth Day, dedicating the day to Swami Vivekananda. The seminar emphasized the theme Empower Today, Change Tomorrow! Voice of the Youth, inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s teachings and his vision for the empowerment of young minds.
On the third day of the camp, lohri was celebrated with traditional fervor. Under the Environment Education Program, Shashi Bala delivered a lecture on household waste management in which students were sensitized to effective waste disposal methods, recycling, and composting, which can significantly reduce the burden on landfills and promote sustainability.

A special visit was paid by the Retd. Prof. Joginder Paul, who accompanied the volunteers to the nearby adopted village, Ucha Gao, where they conducted a rally to raise awareness about stubble burning. He encouraged the volunteers and urged them to continue making meaningful contributions to society through their dedicated service. On this day, Asst. Prof. Swati delivered a lecture on Empathy and Apathy emphasising how both play a significant role in human interactions. Prof. Kusum Rani delivered a lecture on Food and Nutrition. Prof Dilpreet delivered a lecture on Spiritual Well-being.
