The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has strongly refuted the incorrect facts being presented by Aam Aadmi Party leader Baltej Pannu. In a press statement, SGPC Secretary Partap Singh said that the claim made by Baltej Pannu that the annual general meeting (session) is held every year with the approval of the Deputy Commissioner is factually incorrect.

He stated that under the Sikh Gurdwaras Act, after the general elections of the SGPC, only the election to the post of President during the first meeting is conducted under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner. Thereafter, the proceedings of the meeting are conducted by the elected President. He further clarified that after the first meeting following the general elections, the annual general meetings of the SGPC are presided over by the SGPC President in accordance with the Act, and there is no presence or role of the Deputy Commissioner in these meetings.

Partap Singh said that Baltej Pannu is misrepresenting this provision of the Sikh Gurdwaras Act, which is misleading and creates confusion among the Sikh sangat. He added that if Baltej Pannu wishes to speak on such technical matters, he should first properly read and understand the Sikh Gurdwaras Act.

The SGPC Secretary also said that linking the acceptance of the resignation of former SGPC Chief Secretary Dr. Roop Singh with Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami is also baseless. He clarified that when the inquiry report was submitted by Dr. Ishar Singh and action was taken in accordance with it, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami was serving as the General Secretary of the SGPC, not as its President.

He emphasized that before making any comments about Sikh institutions, it is essential to thoroughly verify the facts, rather than making arbitrary statements that create confusion among the sangat.
