SGPC’s World University commences 2 day National seminar on 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji

The Department of Punjabi and the Department of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Religious Studies at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, formally inaugurated a two-day national seminar under the ongoing series of events dedicated to the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Centered on the theme “The Bani and Life of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji: Interpretation and Historiography,” the seminar commenced with an inaugural session featuring the keynote address by Prof. Balwant Singh Dhillon, former Professor at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He discussed various misconceptions found in Persian, English, and other historical texts related to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, while highlighting the importance of Rattan Singh Bhangu’s writings and the historic hukamnamas of the Sikh Gurus.
Giani Harpal Singh, Head Granthi, Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, graced the occasion as the chief guest and urged that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s unparalleled martyrdom should not be confined merely to the phrase “Hind di Chadar.” The session was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh, while Prof. (Dr.) Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs, provided an overview of the University’s ongoing activities dedicated to the 350th martyrdom anniversary. The seminar began with the welcome address by Dr. Sikandar Singh, Head, Department of Punjabi, followed by stage coordination by Dr. Harpreet Kaur.
The first academic session was chaired by Prof. Harbhajan Singh, former Professor, Punjabi University Patiala, and featured research presentations by Dr. Somi Ram, Akal Academy, Talwandi Sabo, Dr. Ankdeep Kaur Attwal, Director, IQAC and Head Department of English, and Harpreet Singh, Head, Department of Music. Prof. (Dr.) Tejbir Singh, Registrar, attended the session as the special guest.

Stage coordination was conducted by Dr. Palwinder Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies.The second academic session, held under the chairmanship of Prof. Parmveer Singh of Punjabi University Patiala, included research papers presented by Dr. Sewak Singh, Sikh Scholar, Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Punjabi, and Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Head, Department of Political Science. Prof. (Dr.) Navdeep Kaur, Dean Research, attended the session as the special guest. Dr. Sandeep Kaur conducted the stage proceedings for this session. The day concluded successfully with meaningful and engaging academic discussions between scholars and participants, marking a productive first day of the seminar.
