Shakespeare’s Macbeth Staged at SGGS World University

The students of the Department of English, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib staged William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth during the Literary Club activities.The lead roles of King Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were played by the students of BA Hons. in English, second year- Gurinder Singh and Sumit Kaur, respectively. Dilpreet Kaur from BA Hons. in English first year played the role of Banquo and the role of murderer was performed by Priyanka from BA Hons in English second year. The witches scene was enacted by Jatinder Kaur, Jaspreet Kaur and Simran Kaur, students of MA English first year. Harpreet Kaur, Arshpreet Singh, Riya, kiranjeet Kaur, Amritpal Kaur and Navdeep Kaur acted as supporting characters. The play was much appreciated by the audience and was a great success.
Simranjeet Kaur, Incharge of Literary Club shared that during the practice sessions, students learnt both onstage and offstage work of the theatrics of the performing art. She said that it seemed the characters were brought to life by the students.

While congratulating the participants, Dr. Ankdeep Kaur Attwal, Head of the Department applauded the efforts of the students for their wholehearted participation in the event. She said that theatre is a collaborative art form which combines words, voice, movement and visual elements to express meaning. She praised the students for organising the series of the literary events which besides this annual play production included Role Play, Debate, Quiz, Poetry Recitation, Creative Writing and Declamation competitions. showing their excellent acting skills and presenting the beauty of the literature on stage. She showed her delight that the students have wholeheartedly participated and organised these events every Friday during the entire semester, which helped them in their holistic development along with their studies. She shared that the Department is committed to hone the hidden talent of its students by organising such events on a regular basis.
