Shiromani Akali Dal fielded senior Akali leader from Ludhiana

The SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal today named senior Akali leader and former Cabinet Minister Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal as the SAD BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha poll from the Ludhiana constituency
Harcharan Bains, Advisor to SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal , said that the names of the remaining candidates would be announced shortly Grewal , a senior and traditional Akali stalwart with a strong Panthic image, enjoys a wide secular base.
The Congress has once again fielded sitting MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, who has already commenced his poll campaign. Bains brother’s Lok Insaf party has almost decided to field Simarjit Singh Bains as their candidate with a backing of PDA . The Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat usually witnesses a straight contest between the Congress and SAD with both outfits winning the seat nine and six times, respectively. In 1989, Simranjit Singh Mann led Shiromani Akali Dal (Mann) candidate won the election from this segment as the Congress and SAD-B had boycotted the polls.
With this, the SAD has announced eight of its ten candidates from Punjab. Its alliance partner the BJP is contesting the other three seats, Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur.
