Union home ministry is going to evaluate all the police stations, across India and is going to rank them. For this purpose, home ministry is going to select a consultant, who can do the survey on the parameters selected by home ministry.
Ministry of Home Affair’s (MHA) Police modernization division is going to hire the “services of a consultancy organizations for evaluation of police stations to select and rank best Police Stations in the country and assist in selection of the best police stations in the country. As per 2019 report of BPR &D, there are 16,671 sanctioned police stations including railway police stations in the country, of which 10,021 are located in rural areas and 4,819 are located in urban ares.
“The police station is the foundation of the police organizational structure . It is not only the cornerstone of the policy execution but very often the place where most citizens come in contact with the police. It becomes extremely important to ensure that it is an inviting public space, its functions effectively for its purpose and it inhabitants and is suitably evolves with the times” said an official.
As per MHA, modern police organizations across the world use metrics and continuous improvement frameworks to measure and improve the performance of the forces operations and effectiveness. This exercise to reward the best performing police stations is undertaken annually by the MHA in the spirit of institutionalizing continuous improvement amongst the Police & to foster healthy competition.

For ranking the best police station, MHA will check the entrance area, parking of visitors, power back up facility, disabled friendly facilities, litter, odour, disposal of liquid waste, open drains, dustbins, presence of waiting area, visitors desk, women help desk, seating arrangements, amenities, investigating officers, availability of various rooms, tea coffee facilities, drinking water facilities, condition of walls, dampness, toilets, cleaning staff, safety features, conditions of lockups , approachability of officials, their uniform, behavior / discipline, maintenance of manual records,mess/ canteen condition, its availability, its condition, its illumination, its flooring, its ventilation, conditions of barracks its condition, its illumination, its flooring, its ventilation etc.
