The Sikh clergy pronounced this decision due to “the mistakes committed by the party when it was in power in Punjab from 2007 to 2017”.

Sri Akal Takhat sahib Jathedar had said while bestowing the award that Punjab Chief Minister has rendered a “great service” to the Sikhs by setting up memorials in the memory of martyrs of Sikh history.

Despite strong opposition from a large section of the Sikh nation at that time , Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was honoured with title “Panth Rattan – Fakhar-A-Qaum” award by the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, Amritsar and others in December 2011 at Amritsar. At that time, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib Giani Gurbachan Singh, presented the award to Parkash Singh Badal in the Golden Temple complex in the presence of Sikh clergy
