Sirsa Dera head death : government suspends internet services to maintain law and order on bhog day

A dera head (Religious Head) of Jagmalwali in Sirsa district Bahadur Chand Vakil died on August 1,2024. His bhog is scheduled to be held on August 7,2024 in Sirsa. To avoid any confrontation and to main law and order, the Haryana government has suspended the internet services across the entire Sirsa district until Thursday midnight.

Bahadur Chand Vakil was the head of Dera Jagmalwali in Sirsa. His followers have been alleging foul play in his death even as a different faction is set to take charge of the Dera. Vakil was cremated on Friday.

The order to suspend internet, issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Anurag Rastogi, was due to the growing tension in Sirsa following his death, according to the home department.

As per available information, “Bahadur Chand Vakil led dera follower Birinder Singh has claimed the Dear Gaddi (headship) . Whereas his nephew Atma Ram is also claiming the Dara Gaddi . Birender Singh has the support of Vakil’s son Chand Singh”

Earlier, Bahadur Chand Vakil had been ill for the past year and was undergoing treatment in Delhi. The annual event at the dera, scheduled for August 3-4, has been cancelled. On July 31, the dera management had told the followers that Vakil’s health was stable and requested them to avoid hospital visits.

Born on December 10, 1944, at Chautala village, the dera chief completed his early education in his native place and later studied at Dayanand College in Hisar. He graduated from Chandigarh Law College in 1968 and joined Dera Jagmalwali the same year. He was appointed its head on August 9, 1998.

As soon as people received the news of Bahadur Chand Vakil’s death, there was a rush to reach the dera. People from various political parties too arrived to pay their last respects.
