Soothing news for job aspirants; finally PPSC gets its Chairman

“The Punjab Cabinet today gave approval to send the recommendations for appointment of Jagbans Singh as new Chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC)” said Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, after today’s cabinet meeting.

After more than three months, Lt General Surinder Singh completed his tenure as chairperson of Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), the Punjab government has finalised the name of Jagbans Singh Powar, former director general, National Academy of Audits and Accounts, for the post. The file has been sent to Governor Banwarilal Purohit for clearance.

About 30 aspirants had applied for the post of PPSC chairman.His name was chosen from a panel of three names for the chairperson, comprising Lt Gen Iqroop Singh Ghuman an ex-Army officer, Jagbans Singh a retired accountant general and a DGP and Chief Director Vigilance B K Uppal, police officer that was selected by the former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, before demitting his office.

Soothing news for job aspirants; finally PPSC gets its Chairman. Jagbans Singh, belonging to the 1986 batch of the Indian Audit & Accounts Service, took charge as Director General of the Academy on 9th August, 2018. He is a Civil Engineering graduate from the Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. Before joining the Academy,  Jagbans Singh was the Principal Accountant General (Audit), Punjab at Chandigarh. He had earlier served in the Academy as a Deputy Director and Joint Director during 1993-95. His other postings in the Indian Audit & Accounts Department have been to the offices at Nagpur, Mumbai, Delhi, Washington D.C., Gangtok and Chandigarh. He has also been on deputation as Financial Adviser and Chief Accounts Officer in Bhakra Beas Management Board, Chandigarh under the Ministry of Power, Government of India.

Amarinder had appointed Lt Gen Surinder Singh in August 2019. He completed his tenure in July this year. The tenure of the constituted post is six years but if a person reaches 62 years of age, then he has to retire before completing the term.
