On April 16, 2025 under the directions of the Deputy Commissioner of Patiala and under the able leadership of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Kusum Lata, a state-level lecture on drug de-addiction was organized at Government Bikram College of Commerce, Patiala as part of the ongoing ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign.
The keynote speaker for the event ‘Drug free Punjab’ was Paramjit Singh Aggarwal, a motivational philosopher, who was accompanied by ASI Subhash Kumar from Civil Lines Police Station, Patiala.
While addressing the students, Paramjit Singh discussed the reasons behind the spread of drugs in society and how students often fall into the trap of drugs due to bad company. He emphasized that no one can force us into drug use against our will. The desire for drugs emerges when we lack a definite purpose in life. When we have clear goals related to education and personal growth, our attention doesn’t drift toward such harmful distractions.
He also highlighted the crucial role parents and teachers play in guiding the youth away from substance abuse. One of his key points was that we must not only stop the supply of drugs but also eliminate the demand for them. This demand can only be eradicated when our youth are aware and alert about the dangers of drug abuse. The Principal of the college also encouraged students to regularly communicate with their parents and teachers to avoid falling into the trap of addiction.
