Students of World University deliver outstanding performance in National Gatka Championship on Sirhind Fateh Divas

The students of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib delivered an impressive performance in the National-level Gatka competitions organized on the occasion of Sirhind Fateh Divas and secured second positions in their respective categories. University student Jaskaran Singh and Gatka player Kiranpal Kaur brought laurels to the University by winning second place in their events.

Dedicated to Sirhind Fateh Divas commemorating Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, the National-level Gatka competitions were organized at Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib under the patronage of the Manager, Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, and the Secretary, Dharam Prachar Committee, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar Sahib. Teams from Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, and Delhi participated in the competitions.

On this occasion, Free Soti competitions were conducted in both boys’ and girls’ categories. In the boys’ category, University student Jaskaran Singh displayed remarkable skill and secured second position after reaching the final match. Similarly, in the girls’ category, university Gatka player Kiranpal Kaur also secured second position.

On this achievement, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh, Prof. (Dr.) Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs, and Head of Department Dr. Varinder Singh Bhullar congratulated Gatka coach Talwinder Singh and the university players.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh stated that the University’s Gatka team had also secured the overall second position in the All India Inter-University Gatka Championship earlier this year.

He further informed that the university, with the support of the Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust and Dr. S. P. Singh Oberoi, offers a one-year diploma course after Class XII. The course has 35 seats, and the annual fee is fully sponsored by the Trust. In addition, the university provides special training in the martial art of Gatka to girl students.
