Sukhbir’s fate as party president goes in limbo ; working committee put resignation in abeyance

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) working committee has put Sukhbir Singh Badal’s resignation in abeyance. No consensus was made on whether to accept the resignation of SAD supremo Sukhbir Singh Badal or not.
Addressing the media after the meeting of the working committee, SAD leader and party’s working President Balwinder Singh Bhunder said while discussions had taken place, a consensus had not yet been formed.
Party officials said further deliberations would be conducted with district presidents and other key members before any final decision was announced.
Party vice-president Daljit Singh Cheema had on Saturday said that working president Balwinder Singh Bhundar had convened the emergency meeting at the party’s headquarters in Chandigarh.
As Youth Akali Dal members held a protest in front of the Shiromani Akali Dal office against Badal’s resignation, party working president Balwinder Singh Bhundar said that he would hold discussions with all stakeholders on the issue.

In a statement posted on X, Dr Daljit Singh Cheema confirmed that Sukhbir Singh Badal submitted his resignation to the party’s working committee on Saturday to facilitate the election of a new president. Dr Cheema mentioned that Sukhbir singh Badal had expressed gratitude to party leaders and workers for their trust in his leadership and the support they extended throughout his tenure.
