Suspended Punjab Police ADGP, AIG get plum postings after reinstatement

Punjab government has reinstated the suspended ADGP SPS Parmar, IPS and SSP Fazilka Varinder Singh Brar, PPS on August 28,2025.

After reinstatement ADGP SPS Parmar, IPS has been posted as ADGP Law and Order against a vacant post. ADGP, Law and order post fall vacant after Arpit Shukla was promoted as Special DGP and appointed head law and order wing of Punjab police.

Similarly, SSP Varinder Singh Brar is posted as AIG, Provisioning after revocation of suspension.

On April 25,2025 , the Punjab government had suspended than Punjab Vigilance Bureau chief SPS Parmar, IPS and Assistant Inspector General, VB, SAS Nagar, Swarandeep Singh,PPS and Senior Superintendent of Police, VB, Jalandhar, Harpreet Singh Mander , PPS in connection with an alleged driving licence scam.

Parmar was placed under suspension with immediate effect under Rule 3(1)(a) of the All India services (Discipline & Appear) Rules, 1969 vide order No. 02 / 15 / 2O25-2HI/824-831, dated April 25,2025.

SSP Varinder Singh Brar was suspended on May 28 while being posted in Fazilka, following a bribery scandal involving four police officials from the Cyber Crime Police Station. The officials were accused of extorting Rs 1 lakh from the family of a minor whose phone had been confiscated. Brar was held responsible for not taking timely action as the supervisory officer.
