Syndicate meeting held at Guru Nanak Dev University

The Guru Nanak Dev University will reopen to start offline classes very soon  as per the instructions and guidelines of Govt. of Punjab for reopening of Universities and Colleges post COVID-19 lockdown. Vice –Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu informed this while presiding over the meeting of Syndicate which was held here yestrday in the Syndicate room of the University. Prof. Karanjit Singh Kahlon, Registrar presented agenda of the meeting. Prof. S.S. Behl, Dean Academic Affairs and some of the members of the Syndicate attended the meeting physically. While, Rahul Bhandari, Secretary Higher Education, Govt. of Punjab, Prof. Ved Prakash, Former Chairman UGC and Prof. Mohammad Miyan, Former Vice- Chancellor of Central University of Odisha, Koraput & Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad & Former Member UGC registered their presence online to discuss issues related to University.

While welcoming the members, Prof. Sandhu said that as per the guidelines, the departments of the physical presence of students for classes in the University shall be re-started in a phased manner. In the first phase, students of final year only be called for physical classes of Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Physical Planning and Architecture and other departments, where hands on training is essential part of the curriculum in the first phase, followed by the departments of Management, Commerce, Computer Science etc. in the second phase and other remaining departments in the third phase. He said that all essential precautions will be followed as per the guidelines.

Prof. Sandhu informed the syndicate that this year the admissions to various  Courses was done online and it is matter of pride that there were  rise in number of admissions from ten to fifteen percent in all Courses of the University. He said that the Compulsory ID courses of EVS, Drug Abuse: Problem, Management & Prevention and Human Rights and Constitutional duties are to be taught at UG/FYIC level only from the next academic session (2021-2022).

Syndicate also accorded its approval to engage a Tax Consultancy firm by calling Expression of Interest in leading Newspapers which would provide all the taxation services on Comprehensive basis under one roof and help the University to save the time and money in a legal way.

The MoU between Guru Nanak Dev University & Institute of Company Secretaries of India, starting of new courses, increasing of number of seats to various courses at University Campus, Regional Campuses & Constituent Colleges, New Appointments and Re- Appointments in the various Departments and 19 Ph.D degrees were approved in this meeting.

Prof. Sandhu thanked the members of syndicate and exhorted all to play a pro-active role in the further progress of the University. The members of the Syndicate congratulated the Vice-Chancellor and others for the overall development of the University and coping COVID-19 pandemic. They also appreciated arrangements made by the University to tackle this situation.
