Punjab Finance, Planning and Taxation and Excise Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema has demanded from the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee that strict action should be taken against those who staged a violent protest using Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
He said that the police and the government always respect the Guru Granth Sahib, so the police acted with great restraint.
Advocate Cheema today arrived at the Raja Bhalinder Singh Sports Complex Polo Ground to inaugurate the horse performance show organized under the Patiala Heritage Festival in collaboration with the Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab State Sports University. On this occasion, MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli and Gurlal Ghanour, PRTC Chairman Ranjodh Singh Hadana, District Planning Committee Chairman Jassi Sohianwala and Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney were also present.
During an informal interaction with the media, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the statement of the opposition parties about the law and order situation in the state is baseless because under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the law and order situation in Punjab is under control and the Punjab government will not allow any person to take law into his own hands. Quoting the recently held Invest Punjab Summit and Patiala Heritage festivals, the minister said that the law and order situation is stable in Punjab so investment by big industries is coming into the state.
The Finance Minister strongly condemned the Ajnala incident and said that it is anyone’s right to hold a dharna, but a violent dharna using the Palki Sahib of Guru Granth Sahib is not tolerable, with this act the religious sentiments of people and followers of Guri Granth sahib have also been hurt so every Sikh should oppose it.

In response to a question regarding the Kotakpura shooting incident, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the SIT formed on the orders of the Hon’ble High Court has honestly presented the challan in the court and those who committed the crime they will be brought to the punishments by the court of law. He thanked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who was determined to provide justice to the justice-loving people of Punjab and will get justice in this case after a long time.
In response to another question, the Finance Minister said that the budget will be presented by the Punjab government in the Vidhan Sabha on time and will also get approval from the Governor. He further said that the Honorable Governor should take care of the dignity of his office as the Punjab Government is the elected government of the people. Regarding the release of the captive Singhs, the Finance Minister said that this is a matter related to the Center or other states, and the Punjab government is also considering it.
Harpal Singh Cheema while appreciating the horse performance show under the supervision of Colonel Navjit Sandhu, Registrar of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, said that it aims to make people aware of rich heritage and youth about equestrian sports.
The Finance Minister said that the Punjab government wants to take Punjab on the map of the Olympic Games, and that’s why big steps have been taken to promote sports.
During the horse show, the teams of REL, YPS, PPS Nabha, P.A.P. Jalandhar, BERC, Chandi Mandir and Army participated and around 80 horsemen showcased their skills in show jumping, gymkhana events, tent pegging etc.
