A two days national level fly Ash utilization conference was organized by Mission Energy foundation at Goa and Talwandi sabo power plant at Mansa received Efficient Management of Fly Ash Award
Mission Energy Foundation is a micro-enterprise initiative that strives to spread knowledge in the globalizing energy sector. They educate and spread technology awareness through ongoing contacts and discussions with the public and industry concerning what the future of the growing energy sector should be. The conference is organized to provide a forum to meet and discuss the science and applications for fly ash and to transfer knowledge and ideas that will benefit their innovative utilization, processing, handling, storage, transportation and disposal of fly ash.
India’s overall ash utilization is approx 63% and target is for 100% utilization of the fly ash. There is need for education and awareness generation.
Conference was attended by representatives of major thermal power producer such as NTPC, Adani Power, Reliance Power, GMR, Hindalco Industries , TATA power and Vedanta etc. Dignatories from various statutory bodies such as MOEF, Pollution Board authorities , Mines etc. attended the conference and discuss on environmentally friendly ash utilization opportunities.
Talwandi Sabo thermal plant was honored by Mission Energy for “Efficient Management of Fly Ash > 500 MW”. Jury has reviewed in depth fly ash modes of all major power producers such as NTPC, Adani Power, Reliance Power, GMR, Hindalco Industries, TATA power and Vedanta etc. in depth and after reviewing TSPL environmentally friendly ash utilization initiatives, honored the same.
Award was received by Vikas Sharma Vashisht (Head Ash Management) and C L Vishwarma (Consultant- Ash Utilization) on 28th Feb-2020 at Goa.
TSPL is rigorously working on scientific and environmentally friendly utilization of ash.TSPL is the first thermal plant in Punjab to initiate usage of thermal fly ash in clay bricks manufacturing process by mixing up to 23% by volume. Presently large number of brick kilns in Mansa and Bathinda district are commercially using the thermal fly ash for clay brick manufacturing. This will reduce consumption of top fertile layer of soil and conserve the environment.
In addition to this, to promote fly ash utilization in local community TSPL is regularly organizing awareness sessions and onsite demonstrations in coordination with village panchayat and district administration. With TSPL efforts, nearly 10-15 fly ash-based plants are established in nearby area and using thermal fly ash for making fly ash bricks, block, tiles etc.
Last year on 22nd Feb-19, TSPL was honored in International Conference on Energy and Environment: Challenges and Opportunities (ENCO 2019) organized by CIMFR (Centre Institute of Mining and Fuel Research) Govt of India inaugurated by Hon’ble President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Science and Technology on 22nd Feb 2019 for this initiative.
On 5th June-2020, Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh also honored TSPL with Environment Excellence Award for commendable efforts for strengthening green belt in the area and for spreading awareness for usage of fly ash in brick manufacturing and infrastructure projects.
