TARANNUM-2023 organised at MRSPTU – Documentary on Maharaja Ranjit Singh released

The grand culmination of TARANNUM-2023, an annual mega Cultural–Literary-Technical Festival known as ‘Mehfil- E-Tirang’ unfolded in a vivid array of colors and creativity at the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU) in Bathinda.
This spectacular event concluded on Thursday night, with the inauguration graced by Dr. D.K. Singh, the Director of AIIMS. Gurmeet Singh Khudian, a distinguished Punjab Cabinet Minister, took the stage as the chief guest. Bathinda MLA Jagroop Singh Gill and GGS Refinery, General Manager, Rajesh Singh were guest of honor in the evening.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of a documentary titled ‘Suramtai,’ a masterpiece crafted by the eminent theatre personality Sudarshan Maini. This documentary artfully captured the courage and valor of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, a historical icon widely recognized as the “Lion of Punjab.”
Ranjit Singh’s life was a testament to unmatched bravery and military prowess. He accomplished the unification of a vast and diverse region under his rule, encompassing territories in modern-day India and Pakistan. His army, known as the Khalsa, earned a distinguished reputation for its discipline and battlefield expertise. His valor even extended to acquiring the renowned Koh-i-Noor diamond, a symbol of his dominion.
Yet, Ranjit Singh’s legacy transcends his military feats; he was a just and forward-thinking ruler who championed religious tolerance and fostered a prosperous and harmonious empire. His story endures as a symbol of unyielding courage and valor.
In his address to the students, Gurmeet Singh Khudian underlined the role of co-curricular and sporting activities in shaping well-rounded personalities and positively influencing academic performance. He urged students to excel not just for their own livelihoods but to make meaningful contributions to society, emphasizing the value of teamwork.
Gurmeet Singh Khudian and Jagroop Singh Gill expressed their optimism regarding the significant contribution that Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University would make to technical education, affirming their full support in providing quality technical education and nurturing employable technical professionals.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu extended his congratulations to the students, winners and organizers, while showcasing the university’s remarkable achievements.
The festival encompassed a wide array of events, including technical competitions, creative contests, and culturally rich performances, spanning songs, dances, skits, rap, band performances, and traditional Gidha and Bhangra dances.
The festival was enriched by the captivating performances of Punjabi singer Kamal Khan, which added vibrancy and energy to the entire event.
The gathering also saw the presence of esteemed senior faculty, deans, directors, and dedicated staff members.
The resounding success of the festival was the result of unwavering dedication from Programme Chief Coordinator, Dean Student Welfare, Dr. Paramjit Singh, Co-Coordinator Dr. Satpal Singh, and the diligent student coordinators. Assistant Professor Dr. Sunita Kotwal adeptly managed the stage, and the dignitaries enthusiastically distributed prizes to the winners, a fitting tribute to the spirit of Tarannum-2023.
