Teachings of Mahatma Gandhi still relevant in society – Dr R S Parmar

To celebrate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi – father of nation, Rotary Club Rupnagar organized one Elocution Competition of the interact clubs of Rotary at GMN senior Secondary School Rupnagar today. Chief Guest of this programe was noted social activist, eminent surgeon of the area & Past Rotary District Governor Dr R S Parmar. In his opening remarks, Past Rotary Governor Dr Chetan Agarwal put light on the teachings of mahatma Gandhi & explained the purpose of today’s event. Members of the seven interact clubs established by Rotary Club Rupnagar in various schools of the city like Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Khalsa Model School, DAV School, Genius International School, Saint Carmel School & Government Girls school participated in this competition.

Topic of the speech competition was Mahatma Gandhi’s life experiences and Independence movement. The speeches were delivered in two languages – Hindi & Punjabi & each participant was given five minutes’ time to finish. All the participants delivered their speeches in a dignified way & other students enjoyed it well. The three members panel of judges comprising PDG Chetan Aggarwal, past president Dr Bhim Sain & Past President Dr JK Sharma evaluated the participants on the five parameters fixed for judging the participants.

In Hindi language speech contest, Arohi Sharma from Saint Carmel School won the first position whereas Khushi from DAV School & Shikha from Government Girls school Ropar got second & third positions respectively. In Punjabi language speech contest, Uma from Government Girls school Ropar got the first position whereas NavjotKaur from DAV School & Gursanjh Kaur from Saint Carmel School won second & third position respectively. All the winners were given trophies, certificates & gift hampers whereas other participants got participation certificates & gifts.

Chairman of this project President Elect for next Rotary Year Rotarian Gagandeep Kaur Saini moderated the entire program & coordinated with all concerned schools. Teachers of the participating schools appreciated the initiative of club & urged to continue this project in future too. From Rotary Club Rupnagar, apart from President SudhirSharma, & Secretary Dr Ankur Wahi, Past President Advocate Amar Raj Saini, Rotarian Ashok Chadha, JPS Rehal, Jaswinderjit Singh, Dr K S Dev, Dr Daljit Singh Saini were present. Advocate Vikram Bhanot, Principal of GMN School Dinesh Bansal & teaching staff associated with all Interact Clubs were also present.
