Anandpur Sahib MP and Congress National Spokesperson Manish Tewari had to wade through overflowing rivulets to reach village Tanda Mansol falling in Kharar assembly segment, to reach the house of a panch whose husband was washed away in floods a few days ago.
Tewari later appealed to the government that five bridges were urgently needed to be constructed over the rivulet, which would cost Rs 11 crores only. He said, this was important keeping in view the risk to people’s lives during the rainy season.
Not only do the villages and villagers get cut off for days together from the rest of the world, although these may not be even 25 kms away from Chandigarh, their lives also get endangered as they have to wade through the flooded waters for emergency purposes.
He disclosed that Swaran Singh, the husband of a local panch was swept away in the flash floods along with his young daughter. Although the daughter was saved, Swaran Singh lost his life.
“While I myself had to wade across the overflowing rivulets, imagine the plight of villagers and risk to their lives as they have do it as a matter of routine during the rains with many of them losing their lives”, Tewari said, while making a strong case for immediate construction of bridges over the rivulet. Among other Kawaljit Singh Chawla ,Sarwan Singh Sarpanch were also present.
