Thalassemic children covered under Person With Disability Act 2016

On the occasion of World Thalassemia day, handicapped certificates were issued to Thalassemia children by Civil Surgeon Dr. Manjit Singh.
Speaking on the occasion he said that these children are covered for diasability under PWD ( Person With Disability ) act 2016. He also said that these children are given free medical treatment and blood transfusion under RBSK programme and free bus passes will be issued for travelling to the place of their treatment.
Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Shally Jaitly said that at present 126 cases from patiala district are registered under Thalassemia society in Rajindra Hospital patiala.Out of these 48 cases which are less than 18 year of age are covered and provided free treatment under RBSK. She said that thalassemia is genetic disorder inherited from persons parents and characterized by abnormal hemoglobin production.
But with parental investigations, children affected with Thalassemia can be detected with in the three months of pregnancy and proper measures can be taken by the parents. If both parents are affected or carrier of thalassemia genes, than there are more chances of these children being affected with thalassemia. She also said that due to lack of awareness,thalassemia cases are increasing .
At the time School Health Medical Officer Dr.Kushaldeep Gill ,Dr. Parveen Puri,Dr. Divjot Kaur, Mass Media Officer Krishan Kumar, Deputy Mass Media officer Bhag Singh, Jasjeet Kaur, Kulvir kaur and DBCC Amarjit Singh were present .
