Thapar Institute hosts National Conference on Sustainable Practices-2025

The Department of Energy and Environment at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET) successfully hosted the National Conference on Sustainable Practices-2025 (NCSPER-2025) conference on February 19-20, 2025, bringing together eminent researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers to discuss cutting-edge advancements in key areas such as water management, solid and hazardous waste management, clean air, climate change, environmental policies, life cycle assessment, and energy management.
This conference witnessed an impressive turnout of over 100 participants from across India, engaging in insightful discussions and knowledge sharing. It included more than 50 oral presentations showcasing the latest research findings. Eminent keynote speakers from institutions like IITs, CSIR, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoEFCC) provided valuable insights into the latest research and policy developments in these critical areas.
The conference was inaugurated by Prof. Adarsh Pal Vig (Chairman, PPCB) and Er. G.S. Majithia (Member Secretary, PPCB), who emphasized the critical importance of sustainable development and highlighted the key themes of the conference. Conference chairperson Dr. Anoop Verma welcomed the dignitaries and shared information about the conference. Dr. PadamaKumar Nair (Director, TIET) and Prof. Ajay Batish (Deputy Director, TIET) also shared their valuable insights about sustainable practices being carried out at Thapar Instituteduring the conference. Prof. GurbinderSingh (Registrar, TIET) also emphasized the importance of sustainability in present era. Dr. Lavneet Dubey (CEE, PPCB) and Er. Rakesh Nayer (CEE, PPCB) also graced the occasion. A vote of thanks was presented by organising secretaries Dr. Gaurav Goel, Dr. Shilpi Verma, and Dr. Nishu Joshi.

The conference also saw active participation from industry professionals representing diverse sectors, fostering valuable industry-academia collaborations. A dedicated industry-academia meet was also organized, bringing together industry officials with IITs, CSIR, CPCB, PPCB, MoEFCCand Thapar experts to discuss potential collaborations, policy implications, and avenues for joint research. Also, the conference featured a special session organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
NCSPER-2025 served as a significant platform for researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals to exchange ideas, explore collaborative opportunities, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
