The Book Lovers’ Retreat (BLR), a Patiala based all women-based book club, hosted a mesmerizing, emotional play, Soldiers’ Silence, at Harpal Tiwana Centre for Performing Arts (HTCPA), Model Town, Patiala, on Sunday, 10thSeptember, 2023. The Book Lovers’ Retreat (BLR) as it is popularly known is in the 9th year since its inception in 2015. It promotes art and culture. This is the first time The Book Lovers’ Retreat (BLR) has stepped into the arena of profound theatre.

The play Soldier’s Silence by Hartman D’Souza was about two war-torn soldiers, Bob and Raza, who walk into an Indian airport to board a flight to Bangalore. But there was a power outage at the airport. They met each other slowly through the darkness and traverse through that encounter, talking about life and pain, and how to endure it. It was a story of serendipity and catharsis. It moved the audience with its bone-chilling performance and emotional dialogues.

The Book Lovers’ Retreat rendezvous with Sehaj, Shivam and Dhananajay enthralled the audience at HTCPA. The play is about riveting tale of two enemy, war-torn soldiers` parallel pains in life.  A battleground for a personal war between an American war veteran and an Iraqi militant. The role of Bob and Raza was enacted by Sehaj Aziz and Shivam Sardana respectively. There was use of minimal sets and costumes. The acting was phenomenal and received a huge round of applause by the audience, who were left teary-eyed and speechless.

The play was followed by a surprise performance by Dhananjay Kaushal, who launched his new song, “Ranjhana Ve”.  It was a delightful surprise for the audience, ending the show in high spirits.
